He was made to do it.                    English Language Tips 2: Write `law-and-order situation`, NOT `law and order situation`, When you write simply `law land order`, there is no need for using hyphen, as there is no need to make it a compound word. In the first instance, law-and-order is made into a compound word to create an adjective to qulify the noun situation. In the second, the phrase law and order is not followed by any such NP and so you need not use such hyphenated compound as adjective.                    English Language Tips 1: Write `adviser to the prime minister`, NOT `adviser of the prime minister`.                    Write `adviser of the government`, NOT `adviser to the government`.

3-day hartal in Taherpur cut supply chain of farm products

uns24.com

A three-day hartal, called by local businessmen in protest against Thursday`s killing of a trader, began Friday in Taherpur municipal area under Baghmara upazila of Rajshahi district that cut off supply chain of various agricultural products from the famous agrarian hub to different parts of the country.

Friday was the main weekly haat day in the river-port municipality. Huge quantities of agricultural products from far and near are marketed there twice a week--Friday and Monday. The sudden strike threw farmers and traders into trouble, as they could not enter the haat for the total shutdown.

"Pickets armed with sticks took position on all gateways to the market and laid a siege to the entrances to enforce the shutdown," said one trader from Taherpur by phone.

Opposition political activists took the lead in the protest.

The shutdown before eid festival gave a staggering blow to the farmers who were to sell their farm produce for eid shopping, said Kartik Saha, one of the shop-owners at the municipal market.

The business community is observing the hartal in protest against the killing of a young businessman, Rubel, in police firing during a protest against seizure of motorcycles and alleged extorting of money by some policemen from the local outpost.

Hartal supporters brought out a procession and set fire to tyres and barricaded road at Chaitali intersection, Haritala Chattar and Durgapur Road.

All businesses and shops remained closed. The movement of all modes of vehicles halted for the general strike.

No case was filed in connection with killing of Rubel Hossain. But police filed a case against 500 anonymous persons in connection with setting fire to the police outpost.

Baghmara police station Officer-in-Charge Ismail Hossain told newsmen that the situation was under control.

Rajshahi District Police Super Alamgir Kabir said, “Police opened fire on agitating locals in self-defence as they attacked the police outpost." One was killed five others sustained bullet injuries in Thursday`s clash.

In-charge of the outpost Mahbubur Rahman was suspended and some other policemen were closed to pacify the locals.
