He was made to do it.                    English Language Tips 2: Write `law-and-order situation`, NOT `law and order situation`, When you write simply `law land order`, there is no need for using hyphen, as there is no need to make it a compound word. In the first instance, law-and-order is made into a compound word to create an adjective to qulify the noun situation. In the second, the phrase law and order is not followed by any such NP and so you need not use such hyphenated compound as adjective.                    English Language Tips 1: Write `adviser to the prime minister`, NOT `adviser of the prime minister`.                    Write `adviser of the government`, NOT `adviser to the government`.

Comrade Jasim Mandal no more

Comrade Jasimuddin Mandal, who used to charm his sudience with his poignant political oration despite having high academic degrees, passed away early Monday at the age of 95.

He fell ill at his Iswardi home in Pabna late in September and was taken to a hospital in Dhaka where he died of old-age ailments, reports said.

He was a noted trade-union leader and led movement of rail workers in the pre-independence period. Mandal belonged to NAP (Wali-Mozaffer), believed mass front of the then Communist Party, following the historic Moscow-Peking split in the left political arena.

He was a top speaker at election campaigns for NAP candidates who contested the 1970 general election with kurhe ghar or cottage as party symbol, his close associates said. Later on, he joined the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB).

His Dhaka funerals will be held after 10am Tuesday, including a last farewell at the Central Shaheed Minar.
