Latest News Ad: A Unique English Grammar, a most useful language book containing almost all ground rules of English, is available with the writer (mobile: 01779477091).                    Make is followed by bare infinitive in active voice but to-infinitive in passive voice: We made him do it. He was made to do it.                    English Language Tips 2: Write `law-and-order situation`, NOT `law and order situation`, When you write simply `law land order`, there is no need for using hyphen, as there is no need to make it a compound word. In the first instance, law-and-order is made into a compound word to create an adjective to qulify the noun situation. In the second, the phrase law and order is not followed by any such NP and so you need not use such hyphenated compound as adjective.                    English Language Tips 1: Write `adviser to the prime minister`, NOT `adviser of the prime minister`.                    Write `adviser of the government`, NOT `adviser to the government`.

Editing agency comes up

Unique News Service, the owning company of online news-agency uns24.com, has decided to run an editing service. Special news items sans time bar, press releases of various organisations, documents, project-concept papers, texts of international communications and the like--all in English--will be edited in correct English language, style and structure.

The editing will be done principally by the agency`s Chief Editor, Moslem Uddin Ahmed. He is an MA in English from Dhaka University and has got over three decades of experiences as a journalist working with English-language premier news agencies, newspapers/magazines, online media and two London-based feature services.

Mr Ahmed has also written four books, one an English grammar containing almost all the useful rules of the English language. The grammar, entitled A Unique English Grammar, is followed at university level and by journalists mainly working for English-language news media.

Another important book to his credit is on journalism. This one--Feature Writing: Gemini Style--is also taught at universities. Though the title is based on feature writing in the light of his experience attained through writing news features for Gemini and Panos feature agencies, London, this book holds the basics of both hard and depth news, elucidating language, style and structure of straightjacket and in-depth news stories. Many Journalism students who read this book are now working with different news media and other professions.

Of the two other books, one is again on the English language and another on Journalism.

The present-day world is a globalised one world and human communications, interactions are also increasingly getting global along the information superhighway, transcending national frontiers. And the main medium is English. Volumes of English are being churned out round the clock. The developments are emerging as a new-era revolution creating knowledge society based on knowledge economy. But, in many cases, English writings--even in textbooks of Bangladesh--are riddled with wrongs, especially in respect of syntax. Mistakes in the use of punctuation marks, for lack of proper knowledge of grammar, and wrong wording may reverse what the writer actually means to write. This, unfortunately, though, happens here more often than not.

Unique English Editing Service offers its service to all interested parties/subscribers to right all such wrongs and deliver fairly flawless edited copies for tariffs at mutually-agreed rates.
